One of the constants of the winter holiday season are sobriety checkpoints by local and state law enforcement. Troopers from the Maryland State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint shortly before Christmas and will conduct them throughout the holidays.
Being careful about impaired driving is especially important in the Ocean City, Maryland area which has the highest conviction rate for DUIs and DWIs in the state.
To provide a safe alternative to drivers getting charged with a DWI or a DUI, Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration is encouraging Marylanders to take advantage of Lyft rideshare credits. Maryland residents, including Ocean City drivers, can get a $20 Lyft credit.
The credit is available from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. between now and Monday, Jan. 2. The code to use is: NYEMAKEAPLAN2023.
The move is aimed at preventing Marylanders who might be impaired by alcohol from getting on the roads.
How to redeem the credit
To take advantage of the credit, open the Lyft app, choose “Payment” from the menu on the top left corner, and scroll to the “Add Lyft Pass” section. $20 will be applied to the user’s account.
