Richard I. Martel Jr.


undefinedRick Martel was born on February 18th in Baltimore during the Blizzard of 1958, the firstborn son of Richard and Gladys Martel. He has one brother, Michael, and one sister, Lisa. He was raised in Baltimore County and attended St. Charles Borromeo School in Pikesville, Old Court Junior High School, and graduated from Milford Mill High School in 1976.

During his childhood, Rick served as an altar boy at church, was a cub scout, and played little league baseball. His family enjoyed summer vacations at Cape Cod, MA. He is an avid Orioles and Ravens fan.

Rick graduated from UMBC in 1980 with a double-major in Economics and Political Science. He then graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law and was admitted to the Maryland bar in 1983. While in high school, college and law school, he worked as a Produce Clerk at Pantry Pride grocery store.

In 1980, Rick married Kim Healy and they have five beautiful children: Elizabeth (36), Sarah (34), Patrick (32), Katie (28), and Meg (22), who have attended The Lamb of God School in Halethorpe, Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, and Mount St. Joseph high School in Irvington. He is blessed with seven (7) grandchildren so far.

Rick Martel lives in Catonsville and attends St. Agnes Church, where he serves as Eucharistic Minister. Rick formerly taught the 8th grade Confirmation Preparation Religious Education class and served as Parish Council President at St. William of York Church, and sang in the Church Choir. The Martel family has been active in The Lamb of God, and ecumenical Christian prayer group, since 1985. Rick also does volunteer work at Frederick Villa Nursing Home.

Rick maintained a general practice law firm in Arbutus from 1992 to 2007 and has had his law office in Catonsville since January 2009. Rick is pleased to announce that to better serve his clients, his Catonsville law practice will be merging with the Law Offices of Thomas J. Maronick, Jr., a full-service law practice with offices in Baltimore City, Westminster and Ocean City, Maryland as well as Catonsville as of the New Year. He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association, the Knights of Columbus, former Rotary Club of Elkridge, and served from 2007 – 2018 on the Board of Directors for Catonsville Emergency Assistance.
